Veterans Services

About Us

For over two decades, the Precinct 2 Veteran Services Department has proudly aided U.S. military veterans and their families. Services include assistance with healthcare, transportation, pensions, compensation filings, death pension claims, burial benefits, and assistance through collaboration with community partners. For more information, call 713-274-9570.

Our Mission

Our pledge is to provide a platform that connects veterans and their families to veteran resources. Streamlining the process while guiding and comforting the veteran during their journey.

Our Vision

To provide a premier veteran’s service experience to the heroes of Precinct 2. This means providing outstanding service with a one-stop-shop approach, so every veteran requesting our services receives the highest quality of care and assistance. This will be achieved by developing programs and services to serve each veteran and their unique situation with the care, empathy, and respect that a veteran has earned and deserved.

Services

Veterans Affairs (VA) Claims

VA disability compensation (pay) offers a monthly tax-free payment to Veterans who got sick or injured while serving in the military and to Veterans whose service made an existing condition worse. You may qualify for VA disability benefits for physical conditions (like a chronic illness or injury) and mental health conditions (like PTSD) that developed before, during, or after service.

Death Benefits & Survivors Pension

If you’re a veteran and your discharge was not dishonorable, you may be eligible for burial in a national veteran’s cemetery.

If you’re buried in a private cemetery, your family may be entitled to a veteran’s burial allowance.

You can receive military funeral honors and memorial items whether you’re interred in a veteran’s cemetery or a private one. View the Burial and Survivor Benefits for Veterans page for more information.

Veterans Burial Benefits & Death Benefits at Private Cemeteries

Family members of vets buried in private cemeteries may be able to get a veterans death benefit or burial allowance. Eligible vets include those who received a VA pension or disability compensation when they were alive. The burial allowance can help pay for burial, funeral, and transportation costs.

Almost all veterans can receive military funeral honors at no cost. They are also usually eligible for free memorial items including:

  • Headstones, markers, and medallions
  • Burial flag
  • Presidential Memorial Certificate

Workforce Development

The V.V. Ramsey Veteran Center now provides career assistance. Harris County Precinct 2 believes that a large part of veterans well-being is being able to provide for themselves or the household. We have created a program that connects veterans with employers that believe in the power and commitment of a veteran employee.

Working with our workforce department as well as teaming up with industry leaders, we are able to collaborate with workforce professionals to offer workshops that focus on topics such as resume writing, interviewing skills, networking, and the power of LinkedIn.

Mental Health / Counseling

Are you or your loved one experiencing trouble sleeping, feeling anxious, depressed, withdrawn, on guard, or having difficulty managing daily stressors and relationships as a result of combat exposure, deployment stress, military separation, or other traumatic experiences?

Seeking help is not about weakness, it is an incredible act of courage, strength, and character. We offer treatment at reduced or no cost, directly into patients’ homes via telemedicine to Veterans, their spouses, and children.

Bill Payment Assistance

If you're struggling because of life situations like losing your job, having a sudden decrease in income, or having an increase in out-of-pocket family healthcare expenses, we can help.

Testimonies

I could not find my husband’s DD214 and thought there was nothing I could do. Precinct 2’s Veterans Services Department assisted me and helped me get the DD214 for my husband. I can now finish what I started.
